The Low Risk Teaching Model
|
|
| To understand how the Low Risk Teaching Model works, it might be useful to start with a couple of definitions. Firstly, what is training? Training is the kind of learning that helps a person do something. A carpenter would receive training so he/she could hammer a nail. At the end of the training, the carpenter would have developed the knowledge & skill required to hammer a nail effectively.
What is education? Broadly speaking, education helps people to live better lives because they are more able to make informed choices. Although education can include some training, it’s more focused on whole-of-life skills. We may have the skill to brush our teeth, but do we choose to? Education provides the information and experiences that might influence you to use the skills you have already developed.
All of Corporate Driver Training Australia’s products & services have been developed using the Low Risk Teaching Model. The model relies heavily on the latest research in the following areas;

Because driving can never be totally safe, the best any individual can expect is to be safer than ordinary drivers.
Simply being a highly skilled driver doesn’t change you chances of crashing unless you choose to drive more cautiously than ordinary drivers. Having more knowledge than average drivers doesn’t make a difference either. It’s what you do that changes the odds.
We believe that most experienced drivers have enough car-control-skill to significantly reduce their chances of crashing. We prefer to focus our effort on the areas that influence our decisions. Most of the decisions we make are the result of the way we have learnt to think. Often however, our thinking is overridden by how we’re feeling.
|
So, Low Risk Driving is a way of things based on in certain ways and dealing with in specific ways.
Therefore, Low Risk Driving Courses provide learning experiences that deal with each of these domains; behaviour, cognition & emotion.
Most ordinary driver training is limited to developing knowledge & skill. This is one of the reasons why it doesn’t work.
The Low Risk Teaching Model is a holistic model, that delivers a range of whole-of-life skills that are more appropriately described as road safety education. The Low Risk Teaching Model works! |
