Tour for a Cure
Peter tours for a cure
Imagine travelling through exotic Vietnamese landscapes, exploring historical
places, eating delicious foods and discovering ancient culture and people. Now
imagine doing it on a Mountain Bike.
Orica's National Workers Compensation Manager, Peter Carrick will soon embark
on this exciting adventure. But it's not all in the name of fun. He is doing it for a very serious and
worthwhile cause, Cancer research.
After losing his mother in law to Cancer earlier this year, Peter and his brother in law
|
|
are currently raising the minimum $5000 each to take part in the latest fundraising initiative from the Cancer Council
Victoria, Tour for a Cure.
Peter says the tour isn't for the faint hearted.
"The Tour is based on a successful 'charity challenge' format operating for many years in the UK. Tour
for a Cure is for individuals prepared to set themselves a significant dual challenge - the physical
task of participating in a adventure tour, and the personal goal of reaching a pre-set fundraising
target for the Cancer Council," says Peter.

Peter has already reached the halfway mark in his fundraising attempts. As part of the Orica Employee
Sponsorship for Community program Peter will receive $1000 from Orica.
Peter is very appreciative of the sponsorship.
"I am so pleased that Orica is supporting me to raise money for Cancer research. It is a very important
interest of mine and I am positive my effort will help the community battle this terrible disease."
The thirteen day mountain bike trek will be undertaken in groups of 35. 33 like-minded travellers have already
signed up for the challenge, with two places remaining. Peter says anyone interested should make contact
with him for further details.
Having not participated in anything like this before, Peter is very excited about the trek.
"I have entered some fun runs for charity before and I regularly ride to work (Deer Park), but this
challenge I am undertaking will certainly test my endurance," says Peter.
Peter hopes that from the tour he can come away with a feeling of having been able to contribute to the
fight against cancer.
"When someone close to you is battling the disease you have a sense of helplessness. I hope that I can
bring another small positive to my wife's family after such a difficult time."
Peter's first aim is to achieve the $5000 bench mark figure. After which he will continue to raise funds
until departure time. Anyone interested is encouraged to show their support for Peter's plight, with
donations welcomed by Peter.
Peter is very excited about the adventure and hopes that his experience will encourage others will follow
suit and take up the challenge.
"I am really looking forward to the atmosphere and camaraderie that will be present during the tour and I
know my experience will be a rewarding and positive one," says Peter.
